I have a Job!

In January I started the pursuit of a job. I looked all over and tried to create so many connections. I can't even tell you how many online applications I filled out...over and over again. I had a few interviews and had to turn down a few offers, as I am sure many of you know the job searching process can be difficult.

Last fall I worked at IWS, Institution of Wilderness Studies, an outdoor education program that Pine Cove offers for two months before I married Blake and I loved every second of the job! There I learned that I love teaching science and having a hands on informal science experience!

I started looking for jobs like applying at the UPS Store, LA Fitness, and Barnes and Noble. Yet, because I loved IWS so much I sent applications to the Dallas Museum of Nature and Science. I got a phone interview as an Hourly Educator and then was asked to come in and teach to about five people a small lesson. I could teach a lesson whatever I wanted (in science) and toward any age group I was comfortable with.

I was at at loss at where to even begin...BUT thanks to IWS I was able to use one of their lessons called Forest and with that nailed a job!

YES...I have a job as an Hourly Educator! After two months of constantly searching and asking people for help the Lord provided me with a job...almost like IWS, but inside a Museum! Smashing together Science and Education, with a side of fun...pure beauty.

My position as an hourly educator has many different responsibilities, but what I will do the most is teach students that come for the day on a field trip. The teacher decides what specific education program they want to do from magnets, building levers with legos, a dino dig, to an auditorium show with fire and liquid nitrogen.

Right now I am just beginning with two other lovely (smart) ladies and we are observing all the classes and getting trained on how to set them up, teach, and tear them down. We are learning a lot from all the other educators and its fun to see the different teaching styles. The excitement comes in when the kid's faces light up!

Kids, science IS fun!

(This picture was actually taken from my friend Mallory's roommate, Alissa, that brought her class in to learn Simple Machines (levers, pulleys, wedges, etc) with Legos! Alissa took this picture! Small World)

It has only been three days officially on the job and I have been affirmed by the Lord in SOO many ways that this is where I belong, this is my niche, and I have loved every part of the Museum/Science life. The way the program is run, the great feel of the people, and the constant learning environment is right up my alley.

The rest of this week, we will be observing classes like air and weather, electricity theatre, and trash island. We are even helping second graders with a heart dissection.

Yes, second graders

A heart dissection

I may be doing a lot of the cutting.

This is truly a dream job and I am excited to start teaching all these classes on my own. Next week is Spring Break so the Museum is having a week long Discovery Camp for students during their spring break. A week full of science and I get to have a group of about 15 Kindergarten kiddos of my own!

I planned the curriculum for the week and I am excited! It is going to be full of glue, glitter, science experiments, games, bathroom breaks, and more glue and pipe cleaners.

Thank you Pine Cove and friends for all the fun ideas and even the possibility to create a week long program and a jump start to the job.

The Lord has provided a dream job and place to work and I can't wait to see where it takes me!
